Misc. Notes
Reigned 1189-1199. This is the fabled King Richard the Lionhearted. He actually spent only a few months in England during his reign. He joined the Third Crusade in 1190 and conquered Cyprus on the way to Jerusalem. He did not defeat the Turks but did negotiate a truce with Saladin which allowed Christian pilgrims access to the Holy Land. Hearing of his brother John's treachery he started to return to England but he was captured by Leopold V of Austria and imprisoned by Holy Roman Emperor Henry VI until 1194.

When he did return he pardoned his brother and went to war against his former partner and rival Philip II of France. The French were defeated in 1198. Richard died of wounds received in a skirmish and John took the throne.
