Frederick was a member of the history department at Union College from 1923-1966, serving as professor of history from 1944-1966. He also served as a secretary of the college for over twenty years. He also taught at the University of Rochester (1938), St. Andrews University (1958-1959) and at Wake Forest University (1966-1970). He is listed in the book Who's Who of America.

"Bronner House" on the Union College campus is named after him.

Appears in 1940 Census on Union College Campus in Schenectady, New York, with Julia, Frederick, and Elizabeth. Some sources mis-spell the last name as “Brohner.”
