Misc. Notes
May be listed as John in some sources. Spelled Boetzer in some indexes.

There was a Julius Batzer on a passenger list for the ship Westphalia ? arriving in New York via Hamburg and Havre on 12 Sep 1882 ? at age 30 with wife Emilie, age 29, and children: Otto age 8, Anna age 4, Ida age 3, Emma age 2, and Gustav age 9 months. All from Prussia.

Otto appears again at age 26 in the 1900 Census living on Russell Avenue in Cleveland with Ida listed as a sister and the other siblings as sons and daughters. Ida age 22 born 1878, Emma age 19 born 1880, and Augusta age 18 born 1881 all born in Germany and emigrated to the US in 1883. George age 16 born 1883 in Pennsylvania. Nellie age 13 born 1886, Lillie age 11 born 1888, and Elsie age 8 born 1892 all born in Ohio.

This appears to be the correct family but the male baby Gustav on the ship 1882 or 1883 becoming daughter Augusta in the 1900 census is a mystery and appears to be an error.

The Otto Batzer residing on Russell Avenue died 22 Jun 1901 from tuberculosis.

Julius is listed as being at Cleveland State Hospital in Emilie’s last will and testament and is not bequeathed anything. This hospital was also known as Northern Ohio Lunatic Asylum or The Newburgh Asylum.
